I wanted to provide you an update regarding Personal theft (e.g. pick pocketing, no violence used), which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Dear Residents, Just to give you an update that Parcel theft has occurred on Linden Square HAREFIELD.
Parcel theft is an increasingly common issue, especially with the rise of online shopping. Taking a few simple precautions can significantly reduce the risk of deliveries being stolen from doorsteps, communal areas, or building lobbies.
Before Delivery
1. Track Your Parcel Use courier tracking apps or SMS updates. Opt for delivery notifications so you know when your parcel is out for delivery.
2. Choose a Safe Delivery Location
Select a designated safe place (behind a gate, shed, or hidden area). Use click-and-collect services or parcel lockers where possible.
3. Avoid Delivering When You're Out
If you're not home, consider:
Delivery to your workplace (if permitted). Deliveries to trusted neighbours. Rerouting to a local collection point.
During Delivery 4. Request a Signature
This reduces the chance of parcels being left in exposed areas.
5. Provide Clear Delivery Instructions
Add notes such as:
“Leave with neighbour at No. 12” “Place behind the side gate” “Do not leave in communal hallway”
✅ Home Security Measures 6. Install a Video Doorbell or CCTV
Visible cameras deter offenders. Footage can assist police investigations.
7. Secure Communal Entrances
Ensure communal doors fully close. Don’t allow tailgaters into the building. Report faulty entry systems to property managers promptly.
8. Keep Your Porch or Doorway Clear
Remove boxes or items that indicate regular deliveries. Use outdoor storage boxes with coded locks for parcel drops.
✅ After Delivery 9. Bring Parcels Inside Quickly
Ask household members or neighbours to collect parcels if you're due home late.
10. Check for Missed Delivery Cards
Avoid parcels being left unnoticed outside for hours.
✅ If a Parcel Is Stolen
Report it to the retailer or courier
Many companies refund or replace stolen items.
Check CCTV (yours or neighbours’)
Share any relevant footage with police.
Report to police
Use the non‑emergency number 101 or online reporting. Call 999 only if a crime is in progress.
